Vociferous
for sax quartet (2020)
for sax quartet (2020)

Vociferous was the first piece I ever completed from start to finish, and it carries the charm of youthful ambition that echoes through many of my later works. Brimming with fast, jazzy, and groovy ideas, this saxophone quartet is packed with vibrant licks and unrelenting energy. The word Vociferous, meaning loud, vehement, or clamorous, perfectly captures the spirit of the music. I wrote this in 2020 for advanced saxophone quartets seeking a fun and demanding challenge, and the piece caught the attention of Steve Schnall, a Chicago-based musician studying at the Vandercook College of Music at the time. In 2022, I had the honor of having Steve premiere the work live in Chicago with his quartet, Saxofonix, which was an experience that deeply inspired and motivated me to continue composing.
